HARRY SQUAB JONES
"Squab Jones" was a fixture around Athens and Sanford Stadium for four decades as the team's trainer. In fact until the late 1960s, Jones was the only African American member of the team or the staff. Jones was a fairly good baseball players, playing several seasons in the Negro Leagues, including at least a season with the Atlanta Black Crackers. When he was a very young man, Squab played center field or a semi-pro baseball team. That team was the Dublin Athletics in 1934, a highly successful team whose home field is now part of Dublin's Dudley Cemetery on East Moore Street.
