THE ET CETERA CHRONICLES - MYSTERY CELEBRITY IN OUR MIDST.

Seventy years ago this week, the Barter Players arrived in Dublin to perform the hit play, "John Loves Mary" in the auditorium of the U.S. Naval Hospital.  Included in the cast was a World War II vet, Ermes Borgnino.  Borgnino was an 11-year veteran of the U.S. Navy.  After his military services, Ermes seriously got into acting.

Known for his gruff voice, dark eye brows, and cat like grin, Ermes is best known for a role in which he played a naval commander on television.  In 1955, Ermes won an Academy Award for best actor in "Marty."   The winner of several major awards for acting, Ermes is of course, Ernest Borgnine.

As Commander Quinton McHale in "McHale's Navy."

As Marty Piletti in "Marty,"  which also won Best Picture and Best Director of 1955.
