THE ET CETERA CHRONICLES - THERON SAPP

Theron Sapp was born in Brewton, Georgia.  As a child he grew up in Macon, Georgia, where he attended and played football at Lanier High School.

Sapp attended the University of Georgia where he played both ways, but was primarily known as a running back.

In the 1957 game against Georgia Tech,  Sapp had his greatest game leading the Bulldogs to a 7-0 victory and ending Georgia Tech's long winning streak.  From that time forward,  Theron Sapp has been known as the man "who broke the drought."

Because of that one game, Sapp's number 40 Georgia was retired.  Another Bulldog to achieve that honor was Herschel Walker, who lived a few miles up the road.

Sapp was the MVP in the 1959 Senior Bowl and the Most Valuable Back in the 1959 East-West Game.

Sapp was drafted by the Eagles and was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles who won  the 1960 NFL Championship game, a forerunner of today's Super Bowl.
