THE ET CETERA CHRONICLES -SHINE ON, SHOE SHINE MAN

SHINE ON, SHOE  SHINE MAN - There was usually a long line at the shoe shine stand (similar to the of one show on the left) Charlie Williams.  Beside his stand, Charlie kept a five-gallon can.  But there was no shine in the can, at least not the shine he was supposed to be selling.  The can was filled with moonshine.  The spiritous liquor was being sold while the customers’ shoes were left untouched.  Evening Telegraph, Dixon, IL, Oct. 14, 1954.
