THE ET CETERA CHRONICLES - THE RACE AROUND TOWN.

Today, we have bypasses around the edge of Dublin. Back in April 1906, the richest and most fervent car enthusiasts proposed to build a five-mile speedway proposed to run out Academy Avenue  by the the Cotton Mill down Roberson St. through northern Dublin to Washington Street and back to Jackson St.  H.H. Smith, Chairman, Clark Grier Secretary led the effort.  The proposed speedway was to be sixty-feet-wide and five-miles long and cost $200 per mile.  The project never made it pass the starting line.  Today, the crazy drivers of Dublin use the existing roads to create their own race tracks.
