IMAGES OF OUR PAST - IN 2018 IN RECOGNITION OF THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE END OF WORLD WAR I, THE CITIZENS OF LAURENS COUNTY, GEORGIA PLACED A NEW MONUMENT TO THE SOLDIERS OF LAURENS COUNTY, WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES DURING WORLD WAR I. THE ORIGINAL MONUMENT, SEEN BELOW AND WHICH WAS ERECTED IN 1921, DID NOT INCLUDE THE NAMES OF THE AFRICAN - AMERICAN SOLDIERS FROM LAURENS COUNTY AND ONE ADDITIONAL WHITE SOLDIER, WHOSE NAME WAS LEFT OFF THE ORIGINAL MONUMENT. THE ORIGINAL EAGLE WAS INCORPORATED INTO THE NEW MONUMENT.


New monument placed in the fall of 2019 to add additional names to the monument including 24 African-American soldiers and 1 white soldier.
