IMAGES OF THE PAST - FRANK'S PLACE (Currently the Oaks Shopping Center) (U.S.HIGHWAY 80 WEST/VETERANS BLVD.) CA. 1930S, In April 1935, St. Louis Cardinals' Hall of Fame Pitcher Dizzy Dean got drunk here instead of attending the team party. Manager Frankie Frisch fined the greatest pitcher in baseball $500.00. Dean promptly announced his retirement until Frisch relented and suspended the fine.
