Victorie Stubbs was the third wife of lawyer and railroad executive, Col. John. M. Stubbs. Mrs. Victorie Vincendiere Stubbs was a daughter of Gov. Louis Lowe, who was governor of Maryland and an ardent member of the Catholic church. Her mother, Esther Winder Polk, was a close cousin to President James K. Polk.
Lowe served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates in 1845, as a member of the Democratic National Convention in 1856, and as a U.S. Presidential elector in 1860.[4] Lowe took the oath of office as Governor of Maryland on January 6, 1851. He served until 1854.
Col. Stubb's first wife was a daughter of Dr. Nathan Tucker, one of the county's richest men.
His second wife was a daughter of Georgiia Governor Herschel V. Johnson, and United States and Confederate States Senator and the unsuccessful vice presidential candidate in 1860. On an interesting note, had Stephen Douglas and Herschel Johnson won the 1860 election. Herschel Johnson would have been president of the United States in June 1861 when Stephen Douglas died of natural causes. .
