The answer is
four. Everyone knows about the
Oconee River. When Laurens County was created in December 1807, the southern limits of the county reached the eastern banks of the
Ocmulgee River opposite the future site of Hawkinsville. Off to the east, Laurens County once encompassed portions of the
Little Ocmulgee River. When a large portion of the county was taken to form Pulaski County in 1808, the state made up for the taking in 1811, when portions of Montgomery and Washington counties were added to Laurens County's lands east of the Oconee River. Portions of the eastern boundary of Laurens County were bounded by the
Great Ohoopee River. And, still today, there are creeks which in Laurens County which continue to drain into all four of these rivers.
