REACHING FOR A STAR - Rob Dean and Paul Young climbed towers for a living. In their work, they noticed what some people did with their towers. The duo were intrigued with a tower in Tallahassee which had been lighted. They went to work. The pair fashioned scrap metal into a seven foot by seven foot star. A friend donated the light bulbs. The total cost was thirty five dollars. Dean and Young went to the courthouse and asked for directions on how to get on the roof. No one asked why. Then, in the middle of the afternoon, Rob hoisted the star to the top of the tower and dropped an extension cord. Paul climbed the tower and tested the lights. It worked. Paul and Rob were worried that the sheriff or the commissioners might object. After all, they had never asked permission. Paul and Rob just thought “everybody would like the star.” After a little more than two decades the tower was replaced, but not the star. I say, bring it back! Dublin Courier Herald, Dec. 21, 1979.
