THE ET CETERA CHRONICLES - THE LAURENS COUNTY JAIL OF THE 1840S.

Workmen on Lawrence Street between the Brantley Bldg. (Lovett & Tharpe Building)  and the First National Bank  (original F&M Bank) found the remains of an old brick county jail.  There were two walls 24 feet apart which were buried about five feet below the ground.  According to Hardy Smith the jail was built in the 1840's.  Smith remembered another jail  on Franklin Street where the Dublin Buggy Company (Laurens County Courthouse Annex) now stands.
