THE ET CETERA CHRONICLES - THE OCONEE INDIANS

The Oconee River was named for Oconee Indians who lived in the middle section of the river before removing to Florida, where they became a part of the Seminole Indian tribe.  The word “Oconee” in the Muscogean Indian language means “place of the skunk.

If the people took their name from the place, I can hardly blame them for removing to Florida.
