On the 15th day of May 1878, a strong thunderstorm passed through the Buckeye Community ripping up trees and leveling fences. Dr. Hick's son Jimmy ran out to survey the damage. He returned to the house yelling that the storm had blown the tail off of a cow. Sure enough Dr. Hicks found a cow minus its tail. How it was removed was a matter of conjecture. Several hours later the tail was found wrapped around a pine tree.
