Dublin, Georgia, was the first U.S. city incorporated under the legal name “City of Dublin.” Its 1812 charter incorporated it as the town of Dublin. An 1893 Georgia act repealed an earlier town charter and reincorporated it as the city of Dublin. Digital Library of Georgia. That distinction matters: Dublin, New Hampshire, was chartered earlier, in 1771, but as a town; Dublin, Texas, was incorporated in 1889, also described in historical records as a town.
