A WELL-HIDDEN SECRET - Did you know that there is an artesian well under the Dublin-Laurens Museum? It even has a name? Robinson's Artesian Well was dug in the latter part of the 1890's. After the Dublin Academy burned in 1901, school was held in the City Hall/Masonic Lodge, which was then located just in front of the present City Hall. That building was then moved to the present site of the museum, where it remained for about a year. The old school building was then moved to the corner where Pitts Pontiac Buick is presently located. Initially, it was used as a furniture warehouse. Later it was remodeled into a house. After the house was moved, the Dublin Military and Philharmonic Orchestra built their bandstand on the site for their spring and summer outdoor concerts. A year later, the Carnegie Library was constructed on the site - over the well.
