THE ET CETERA CHRONICLES - JAMES WHO?

JAMES WHO?-  James wasn't known by many members of the Dublin Laurens Chamber of Commerce on October 16, 1969 at the Dublin Country Club.   Sounding like a current day Republican,  Jimmy, a relatively young state senator,   praised the conservatism of Georgians, who wanted to solve their own problems and be left alone by the Federal government - citing that it should be left to local governments and the people to solve the problems of school integration.  The speaker called for better law enforcement and lower dropout and birth defect rates in Georgia.  He encouraged the growth of local industry as a way of fighting the increasing costs of the welfare program.  If you haven't guessed it by now, James is James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, the first president of the United States to speak in Dublin.  Dublin Courier Herald, October 17, 1969, p. 1.
